Calvary’s Christian Social Ministries Committee is active and welcomes participation. We take our responsibilities to the Parish and our community seriously, providing both financial support as well as hands on support for several agencies and organizations.
Our current programs include:
Back Pack Buddies, which provides food to children at W. A. Pattillo School that would not otherwise have adequate food for the weekend. Each week members of Calvary Parish, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church and Eastern Star Baptist Church gather to pack approximately 80 backpacks with food. The backpacks are delivered to W. A. Pattillo School on Friday to be sent home with the children. The project is funded by donations from the participating churches, food donations from individuals and monetary donations from individuals and foundations.
Tarboro Community Outreach, which offers a homeless shelter as well as hot meals and a food pantry for those in need.
VOICE (Volunteers Offering Independent Care for the Elderly), which provides transportation and companionship to lonely, elderly citizens, enabling them to remain independent in their own homes.
Meals on Wheels, which delivers a hot midday meal to homebound persons who need it.
